I had forgotten to post this on my blog last week. I always expect to be asked a question that you think or say afterwards ‘Well, I’ve never been asked that before’ and last week I did! One of my clients asked me ‘If they do pre-activation exercises before having sex would that allow them to get into better positions’?

I do have to say I wasn’t quite sure how to answer? My automatic response favoured the professional and scientific answer although I was dying to add a cheeky comment. I said to my client that was the first time I had been asked that question. It wasn’t until I trained my client today (a week later) did they ask if I had posted it on my blog. So I thought I should post it before I forget. My answer at the time was ‘Yes, if you did do some pre-activation exercises you may be able to hold positions longer because you will be more stable’.

On that basis I did a little research. You do have to be careful scouring the internet using the words ‘Sex’ and ‘Exercise’ as it can bring up some strong images and content (Something I know nothing about of course!!!). However, I do know that if you exercise regularly and feel good about yourself, your self confidence is greater. When you feel good about yourself you are more adventurous, more attractive to the opposite sex and have a positive outlook on life.

Are there any links to exercising regularly and better sex? There is a lot of information out there from books promoting better sex through yoga to sex increases your libido. here are two interesting quotes from two experts.
- Professor Alan Riley of the University of Central Lancashire – one of the UK’s leading experts in sex problems – says that lack of desire is the number one sex problem in women today and that it’s extremely difficult to treat.
- Dr Helen Singer Kaplan wrote a ground-breaking book called Disorders Of Sexual Desire. In it she stated that: ‘In human females, (o)estrogen does not enhance sexual desire.’ She also said that testosterone is the ‘libido hormone’ for both genders

People generally have a misconception regards testosterone. Usually, people think of a muscle bound man or woman, sports people and growing hair in unwanted places! This is not the case! Testosterone is needed in muscle tissue growth and maintenance. Low and behold, strength training (resistance exercise or lifting weights) promotes muscle tissue growth. Again to all of you out there thinking that strength training or lifting weights means you will get big muscles or become bulky this does not happen. You need an awful amount of testosterone to accomplish adding size. Adding size and tissue growth does come back to the amount and what types of food we eat. Generally, people don’t eat enough of the RIGHT things!!!!

Here are a few facts for your reasons to exercise and improve your sex life:
- Studies have found a direct correlation between physical inactivity and a lack of potency. So, exercise can increase your potency, and it can also make your sex life more enjoyable
- Sex also requires you to hold…er…occasionally unusual positions for short periods of time, so conditioning your body can be a plus for longer lasting sex
- As long as we’re talking about holding yourself in position, strength is something else you’ll need
- Being limber can enhance anyone’s sex life by making it a bit easier to get into your favorite position with a minimum amount of fuss
- Keep in mind that both sex and exercise have been proven to help reduce stress, so doing both on a regular basis should help you stay relaxed and happy
- Don’t forget that sex burns calories. Sure, it has to be fairly vigorous to get your heart rate going, but a 130-lb person can burn about seven calories per five minutes of vigorous sex. Keep it up for an hour, and you’ll burn off 88 calories…not bad for having a little fun, plus, you will impress your mate with your incredible endurance
